Maximum and minimum piezometric pressure head envelopes for the pipeline upstream of a Francis turbine created during the transient flow generated by a turbine trip and a linear guide vane closure rate of 30.0 seconds.

Capabilities

The computer program (PTRAN) developed by Dr. Adrian Boldy, Director of HydroSim Consultants Limited, is capable of simulating the transient response of any conceivable hydroelectric installation equipped with Francis, Kaplan, or Reversible Pump Turbines. A unique algorithm based on a curvilinear mesh superimposed on the turbine performance characteristics ensures accurate interpolation for the intermediated guide vane openings.

In addition to the turbine(s) any of the following boundary conditions may be incorporated into a given simulation:

        Turbine flywheel;      Pressure relief valve;     Bypass valve;      Main inlet valve;       Reservoir

        Control valve;     Variable area surge chamber;    Variable area air vessel;      Pumps
